BlueJeans vs Zoom Comparison

BlueJeans and Zoom are both reliable web conferencing platforms that clearly display how interactive and efficient online meetings can be. Zoom is, of course, the most popular web conferencing software of the pair. However, don’t let fame cloud your thoughts. Though Zoom may offer a more comprehensive list of features than BlueJeans, it was also involved in its fair share of security breach issues. That being said, there is third-party software that you can use to remain safe, which can be a solid choice considering that Zoom offers a free forever plan, whereas BlueJeans does not. So, does BlueJeans offer enough features to be worth its price, or does Zoom convenience still compensate for its apparent lack of security?

BlueJeans

BlueJeansBlueJeans is a dependable web conferencing program that provides all the necessary tools to run engaging online meetings. It supports up to 100 participants simultaneously and provides HD video quality. Furthermore, by providing integration with various third-party platforms, BlueJeans is able to ensure a smooth workflow from the moment you’re preparing the session all the way up to the meeting’s follow up.

The user-friendly application used to run online meetings enables you to share your screen as well as files, remote control other user’s computers, and scribble on a whiteboard. The software also offers the ability to record meetings where there is a special feature that, when enabled, will only record the meetings’ highlights. This not only decreases the video file size, but also saves you time when you need to recall something from the meeting. If you prefer to have the meeting content in text, BlueJeans allows for meeting transcriptions as well.

Security-wise, meetings have end-to-end encryption via the military-grade AES-256 protocol. Furthermore, all meetings have a random ID, and you can lock them to protect from uninvited visitors. Enterprise subscribers get even better security through the BlueJeans Direct Connect add-on, where all traffic remains within the company’s private network, bypassing all third parties such as ISPs.

There isn’t a free plan, but you can try out BlueJeans through its 7-day free trial. After that, you’ll have to get a paid subscription that starts at $9.99 per month for the Standard version and $13.99 per month for the Pro subscription.

Zoom

Zoom is one of the most well-known web conferencing platforms on the market, and for good reason. In addition to the free forever plan, this web conferencing software provides a comprehensive list of features that cover the basic web conferencing tools and then some. One example is the whiteboard feature that offers the ability to co-annotate. Hosts can also create breakout rooms, which split a web meeting into separate sessions. Since the software gives you the ability to set up a time limit before participants return to the original session, it’s the perfect tool to use for team assignments.

It doesn’t end there though. Zoom is packed with features that you didn’t even think you needed. One example is the ‘touch up my appearance’ tool, which gives you an extra boost of confidence by ensuring you look your very best on camera.

There have been some issues regarding Zoom’s security system, though. In 2020, Zoom was called out for not offering end-to-end encryption as advertised by the company. Thankfully, the company was quick to respond and quickly bought a security startup in order to develop built-in end-to-end encryption. Despite this, this web conferencing software still offers a reliable array of security features such as meeting password protection, and HIPAA compliance for users who create a healthcare account.

Conclusion

Although Zoom is more popular than BlueJeans, it doesn’t mean that the latter isn’t a reliable web conferencing solution. Zoom does provide more features than BlueJeans, though, making it a more comprehensive web conferencing software overall. On the other hand, up to now BlueJeans has never had a security breach. While Zoom is indeed fast in responding to any problems found with its security system, it’s better not to have such issues in the first place. Despite this, there’s one thing that clearly places Zoom in its own league – its free plan. There’s no way around it. If you’re looking for a simple web conferencing platform, Zoom offers you the option to run online meetings free forever, while BlueJeans will always need a paid subscription to work for longer than its 7-day trial period.
